& what lies lurk in kisses
FOR THAT FACE WHICH LAUNCHED A THOUSAND SHIPS

Brookella was having one of those days. Sophia was in a bad mood and wouldn’t do anything that she was being asked to do, which infuriated her. She always kept her patience though and she knew that it was inevitable that she would have the tantrums since she was at that age. Please Sophia, do as mommy says she said trying to get her daughter to put her coat on. I’m so not in the mood for this she muttered to herself and sighed. She truly loved her daughter but couldn’t deny that she was often hard work, and her father was at work so he wasn’t around to help her during the day. Today was meant to be her day off but she had been called into work last minute because one of the other waitresses was sick. She hadn’t been very happy about it but if it got her money then she would go. Sophia’s father had been trying to make her quit for a while. He actually had a good job, well he had a good hobby....that she didn’t approve of. He wasn’t old fashioned in the sense that she should be in the kitchen and cook but he believed that it was best for Sophia to have her mother around.
Brooke wished that she could do that but honestly she wanted to earn her own money, she could quit but she would only start working again when Sophia started school since she would then have nothing to do, though to be fair that was in the future so she could quit, she was definitely often swinging in that direction whenever she got some snot faced customers who just reminded her of her parents. Her brother also worked there so it was nice to have him close. She knew that one of the reasons why Sophia was being difficult today was because she had told her it was her day off and kind of promised her a day out. Sweetie I am sorry okay? she kissed her forehead and sighed Mommy has to work, but I will make it up to you, I promise Sophia pulled a face and got up off the ground from her tantrum next to Brooke and gave her a hug and kiss. I will make sure we have our time at the weekend okay princess? she wiped a tear away from her eyes and picked her up giving her a big hug, and then put her coat on.
Brooke dropped Sophia off at nursery before making her way to the cafe where she worked and sighed as parked and walked in. It had not been easy leaving her when she had basically held onto her legs on the floor for as long as she could. Eventually one of the staff picked her up but she had still had a bit of a fit about it. Brooke tried not to think about it as she felt tears coming along. She couldn’t cry at work, that was just lame. She sighed and went to the bathroom quickly before starting on her job. Looking in the mirror she wiped underneath her eyes and pulled her concealer out of her pocket and applied it. She smiled and then went back out and began to take orders from customers and started bringing others their food. The more snooty looks she got, the more she thought about quitting while Sophia was still young, but that would mean she wasn’t doing anything and she would have no qualifications. Brooke’s dream was to be an actress but that was a very big dream. She would have been happy with a simple office job, but of course, no job would pay her well without graduating from university first, well that was what she thought. She only just managed to graduate high school.
As she went about her jobs she saw a friendly face. Relieved she went over and smiled at them politely. She knew the people around here wouldn’t want anything less. Hey there what can I get you? she smiled.
